Bolgheri Rosso DOC 2023 Donna Olimpia 1898
The 2023 Bolgheri Rosso DOC from Donna Olimpia 1898 is born in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, one of Italy's most renowned areas for producing great Bordeaux-style reds. The winery, with its 60 hectares entirely within the DOC, represents a modern project rooted in history, combining tradition and innovation under the guidance of Guido Folonari.
The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc reflects the terroir's distinctive characteristics: sandy and loamy alluvial soils, the unique microclimate between the sea and the hills, sea breezes, and strong temperature variations that allow for slow and complete maturation.
In the glass, it presents an intense ruby red with purple reflections, a sign of its youth. The nose offers a complex bouquet of ripe red fruits such as currant and blackberry, accompanied by balsamic notes of eucalyptus and myrtle, with spicy hints of vanilla and chocolate from aging in French barriques.
On the palate, it is harmonious and enveloping, with silky and well-integrated tannins, balanced freshness, and a lingering finish that recalls fruity and spicy notes. A medium-bodied wine yet highly elegant, it perfectly represents the new generation of Bolgheri reds.
Ideal paired with red meats, game, duck à l'orange, or aged cheeses, it is a red that combines pleasantness and depth, perfect for drinking today but capable of evolving over the years.
