Making jams, preserves and marmalades at home is a creative way to take care of your diet, avoiding preservatives and industrial additives. Bormioli Quattro Stagioni jars are designed to make conservation easy, safe and long-lasting , even for beginners.
🍏 Basic recipe: apple jam
Ingredients:
- Apples (washed, peeled and cut into wedges)
- Juice of 2 lemons
- 500 g of sugar
- 100 cl of water
Procedure:
- Combine the ingredients in a large saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat for about 45 minutes , stirring often.
- Sterilize the jars (see guide below).
- Pour the boiling jam into the preheated jars.
- Close with the caps and turn upside down for 15 minutes .
✅ Practical guide to conservation with Quattro Stagioni jars
The 4 golden rules:
- The capsules must be used only once to ensure vacuum sealing.
- Avoid sudden changes in temperature (max 42°C) to avoid breaking the vases.
- Do not pasteurize in the oven or microwave .
- The Ø 86 mm format is not suitable for contact with fatty foods .
🥝 Choice of ingredients
Always use fresh, organic and well-washed fruits and vegetables. To avoid browning and reduce bacterial load, soak them in water acidulated with lemon before use.
🧼 Sterilization of Bormioli jars
- Check that the glass is not chipped.
- Place the jars in a pot with the rim facing up, wrapped in tea towels.
- Cover them with warm water and bring to the boil for 10 minutes.
- Wash the capsules only by hand with hot water (no detergents, no dishwasher).
💡 The jars can be reused, the capsules cannot!
🍯 How to fill Quattro Stagioni jars
- Fill up to 2 cm from the edge (1 cm for those ≤20 cl).
- Do not press solid ingredients . Cover with liquid.
- Remove any air bubbles with a spoon.
- Clean the edges and close without tightening too much.
🔥 How to get the vacuum
Method 1: Pasteurization (boiling)
- Place the closed jars in a pan with warm water.
- Wrap them in tea towels to avoid bumps.
- Bring to the boil and cook for the indicated time.
- Let the jars cool in the same water.
Method 2: Hot potting
- Preheat the jars with hot water.
- Pour the boiling preparation.
- Close and turn upside down for 15 minutes.
⚠️ Do not place vases on cold surfaces (e.g. marble, metal).
🧪 Verification and storage
- Make sure the center of the capsule is depressed.
- If not, repeat pasteurization with new capsule.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from light (max 23°C).
- Label each jar with the date and contents.
- Wait at least 60 days before consuming.
- After opening, store in the refrigerator.
